There is a huge shortage of housing in the Netherlands, including in our province of Zeeland. To this end, the national government has taken the initiative to conclude a housing deal. This housing deal includes the agreement that the national government will build 900,000 houses throughout the Netherlands until 2030. Agreements have also been made on the type of housing (affordable, rented and owner-occupied) and where they will be located.

Woondeal Zeeland

On 6 March 2023, the Woondeal Zeeland (Housing deal) was signed by the central government, the province of Zeeland and the thirteen municipalities in Zeeland. The Woondeal Zeeland entails building 16,500 houses in Zeeland until 2030. In total up to 355,000 houses, of which social rented houses (6,840), medium rented houses (1,070) and owner-occupied houses (3,460). The remaining 4,000 houses are more expensive rental and owner-occupied houses.

As OnbegrensdZeeuwsVlaanderen, we welcome the Woondeal Zeeland. Housing is one of the spearheads in our ambition to put Zeeuws-Vlaanderen on the map as a unique region to live and work. The Woondeal offers new opportunities for starters on the housing market, but also for new Zeeuws-Vlaanderen residents and internationals who want to settle here. There are also agreements on the number of houses per municipality. We will list the numbers for Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. In Terneuzen, this involves 1,820 houses; in Hulst 825 houses; and in Sluis 270 houses.

Working group Housing OnbegrensdZeeuwsVlaanderen

Real estate agents, property developers and OnbegrensdZeeuwsVlaanderen work together in the Housing working group. They have spent the past two years monitoring the housing policies of the municipalities of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and the Province of Zeeland, conducting research and providing advice. In the coming years, the working group will continue to do so in order to contribute to the Woondeal Zeeland. We will soon announce more about an event on this theme during autumn.
