Natural and historical connection

The natural and historical connections are characteristics of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. The region has many unique scenic beauties in the form of salt marshes, creeks and areas outside the dikes. Most of them are legacies of a lost battle with the sea or a consequence of conflicts with occupiers such as the Spanish. The creeks, lines, forts and ramparts give the feeling of a logical structure and protection. But they are also open, which means that these borders also provide a sense of connection.
