"Zeeuws-Vlaanderen is part of you and that will never disappear.”

It is my honour to write the first blog. I am Ellen van Troost, and since the beginning of this year, I have been the project secretary of OnbegrensdZeeuwsVlaanderen. In 2003, I returned to Zeeuws-Vlaanderen with my husband and daughters. I had left the region when I was eighteen to study in Leiden. After my studies, I moved to Rotterdam. Twenty years in Leiden and Rotterdam were a wonderful adventure. Our children grew up in an old city district as real citizens of Rotterdam and we enjoyed the cultural life in the Randstad.

Zeeuws-Vlaanderen is part of you and that will never disappear. My desire to come back to Zeeuws-Vlaanderen became stronger and stronger. It took some effort to convince my husband - who is also from Zeeuws-Vlaanderen - but he cut the knot. Almost twenty years later, I can say that it was a very good decision. By coming back to live here, I have been able to develop myself further. To my surprise, everything I did in the city I could also do here. In fact, there were more opportunities for me here, because I could use and further develop my work experience from the city. A very creative period started for me: my own company and a holiday home that we rented out. I was able to personally experience the slogan of OnbegrensdZeeuwsVlaanderen and I am now doing the same again with this wonderful new job as project secretary of OnbegrensdZeeuwsVlaanderen.

I look forward to meeting enthusiastic people who want to share their experience of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. Can I invite you to write our next blog? Let us know!
